ROHANNE YOUNG

DIRECTOR

How did discovering a patch of wild asparagus lead to a lifelong passion for gardening? Well, Rohanne learnt that the asparagus grew best when it was fertilised, watered and regularly picked.

Rohanne Young has a Bachelor of Sciences in Nutrition and Human Health, as well as post graduate qualifications in Health and Safety, Risk Management, Executive Coaching, Environmental Management and Sustainability.

She worked for several years in the corporate world, which gave her some extraordinary opportunities. From climbing up lighthouse towers in the Great Barrier Reef Marine Park, to descending down into dam walls and being winched up in a cherry picker, sailing on working vessels at sea and flying through an Antarctic storm to visit Maatsuyker Island, the world’s most remote lighthouse. She is also a qualified diver.

Now specialising in biodynamics, Rohanne is the founder and Director of The Delectable Garden, a company that creates biodynamic preparations including biodynamic peppers. Biodynamic peppers deter animals and plants that have become pests in urban and farming environments, without resorting to harsh chemicals that not only poison the natural environment, but also harm our planet, our soils and our foods. Having discovered the impact of the biodynamics preparations in growing healthy, full-of-flavour vegetables, Rohanne has recently turned her attention to using homeopathy to potentise the biodynamic soil preparations, making them easier to use.

And it all started with that patch of wild asparagus and an overgrown garden in a national trust house. Rohanne has gone on to create gardens in a diverse range of climates including the tropics, sub-tropics, cold and temperate zones.

Formal studies in nutrition nurtured her love of growing and cooking her own foods. Follow up studies in sustainability and the environment led to a growing awareness of the positive impact of growing our own foods, which led to a deep understanding of the role of soil and the importance of protecting our environment.

She has recently moved to the mid north coast where she resides with her two fur babies, 3 cattle, numerous chickens, ducks and geese and lots of gardens.
